With an all around the world approach to his music, the crowd get to bathe in  sprinkles of  heavenly Hip Hop, Jazz, Samba, Iranian and Togolese Funk, Lebanese folk, roots reggae, Nigerian and Ghanian highlife, Trinidadian boogie and my favourite for sentimental reasons, Punjabi Pop.

London raised Said came to Ibiza from Qatar  in pursuit of love – the kind of love for a life of freedom that comes from daring greatly and jumping into the unknown. In Said’s instance he changed his career from a successful TV Producer to a now successful Island DJ and most recently record producer. The Grandmaster Flash of everything from the obscure to pop goes pop, Said recently had the space and time to create his first production, a remix for Maaula Records, a musical manoeuvre we all hope to hear more of on the dancefloor and truly the silver lining of lockdown for him.

Here Said shares with us some of his Island loves and best kept secrets including the best VIP  Island rave.

  1. My “in love with Ibiza moment”

I’m permanently in love with the Island! I think it’s important to feel grateful and not take anything for granted. I love what I do. Yuri at Soulgood wants me to play what I like and it seems to work! When you are given complete freedom and support it’s the best feeling in the world.

2. My life this past year has felt and looked like .

This past year I’ve felt “wavy”. There have been some difficult and sad moments especially involving my close family and then literally in the same week there have been some incredibly positive moments. That’s life though – there is pain and there is happiness.

At this moment we both try to hum/sing Frankie Beverly & Maze, Joy and Pain – safe to say Said has a pleasant voice and tone whilst I can not sing and should never try ever again. Ever.

3. Some of the things that have changed for me are.

I love being out and socialising and so being in a strict lockdown has allowed me to reassess how I spend my time. As the restrictions lifted I am a little more selective with how I spend my time now. More conscious. Not being able to play to a dancing crowd was initially strange but im accepting of how it has to be and again so thankful for everything I have. I’m lucky I live in a beautiful home and our terrace became the lockdown disco hotspot for us. I definitely had a lot of fun at home

4. When restrictions are lifted the first thing I dream of doing is.

Hugging my friends and dancing all night! What I miss most is the adventure of a night out. Starting the evening and not knowing where it will take you!

5. For those not yet able to visit Ibiza one thing I would like to say to you is.

Ibiza is much more than the parties. Make time for nature on the Island like the unspoilt hilltops  in San Juan for example. Looking out onto the Island is incredible. [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”8336″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1511185738030{padding-top: 52px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]6. A “normal”  Island adventure for me now looks like

A long walk exploring the Island with my dog, Dalia.  Finding new places feels like an adventure and sunsets are always spectacular anywhere on the Island.

7. My favourite moment of the day/season

I don’t really have a particular season but I do like the pace at the end of the season from September onwards. Summer is a lot about excitable frenzied folk asking “Can you help me urgently? I wanna have a party” vibe! ( Said says this in a crazy voice – Said does lots of voices! ) where autumn winter is more relaxed. I love going out on walks and looking for kindling and the right wood to make a good fire!

8. Something about the island you can’t read in the guidebooks but need to know

Again it’s nature on the island. Make time for it, it’s magical.

9. I love to eat

A chimichurri chicken burger with manchego cheese and sweet potato fries accompanied by a pint of  complot IPA outside Project Social people watching!

A canya at my local Can Curreu in Santa Eularia, they do amazing fries and have a lovely beer garden.

11. I love to swim

I only discovered it recently but Cala Nova and Cala Llenya for the clear sea oh and Portixol – well worth the trek.

12. I love to dance/play

It used to be Pikes, Malanga, Las Dalias and of course my favourite Soulgood but during lockdown it was behind the decks outside in my house! Even my dog Dalia has a favourite boogie spot on the porch that she loves.

13. My favourite island hang out is

Soulgood !

14. My Island playlist sounds like

Check out Said playlist here – let the music play. Island Vibes from Sadeedo

Mixcloud

15. My favourite Island memories are

So many but recently nature walks with my dog listening to new music. When I discover a new amazing track, it’s that excitement, the ‘yes I’ve found a new biiiig tune!’ moment, and I get all excited and have a boogie, so a VIP secluded rave, just my dog and I!

16. Don’t leave the island without

Visiting Soulgood for the Island vibes, finding a little nook at Pou Des Lleo and people watching on the corner outside Project Social.

17. I’m whispering this island secret to you….

Get out in nature, Ibiza is so much more than just the parties!

ASK AN ISLANDER – Sofia Gomez Fonzo https://www.theislandvillas.com/ask-an-islander-sofia/ https://www.theislandvillas.com/ask-an-islander-sofia/#respond Wed, 26 May 2021 10:58:48 +0000 https://www.theislandvillas.com/?p=8203 [vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]We wanted to ask the normal questions but as this past year has been far from normal, we wanted to get real and ask about the challenges of living on an Island during a pandemic. Always seeking out the light, we also asked if our Islanders had any useful tips or thoughts that might inspire us to live and feel better during these testing times.

Under Sofia’s spell.

We first entered Island photographer Sofia’s world through her spellbinding videos of smoke cleansing as the creator of Island Witch Crafts and then as always on this fun and mystical Island started to learn of her many creative loves such as reiki and crystal healing, yoga and dancing to music into the sunset hours and beyond. Seeking joyful simple moments in the ordinary everyday, Sofia has a gentle yet mischievous knowing that everything has a beautiful rhythm to it if you surrender to the belief that the Universe has your back.

A resident Islander for over a decade, here she gracefully shares with us her Island desires, tips and secrets.

My “in love with Ibiza moment” My life this past year has felt and looked like.

Connecting to nature, observing the little things, noticing the changes in colours, light and places that has made me move slowly and through the seasons too.

Some of the things that have changed for me are.

There has been a lot of changes for me since March 2020, I used to live on and off the island and travel a lot, I used to photograph many weddings and tourists coming to the island and now it has also slowed down. I used to work a lot and party a lot too and that has also disappeared… I’ve been adapting to new ways of living that has meant to re-evaluate how I used to do things before… I still miss them but have been practicing this new challenge.

My relationship with Ibiza now is.

Ibiza has always been my home, since I arrived here on the winter of 2011. It still feels like my home, even if life feels different. She provides, helps me grow and supports me in many ways, so I do my best to support her too.

Now restrictions are lifting the first thing I dream of doing is.

Dancing all night long to amazing electronic music until the sun rises and seeing all the happy smiles when we all forget about the difficult times.

For those not yet able to visit Ibiza one thing I would like to say to you is.

Ibiza is as beautiful as always and will be here to welcome you when you are ready, to receive you with open arms.

A “normal” Island adventure for me now looks like

Going for walks in nature and foraging wild plants.

My favourite moment of the day/season

My favourite season is summer, and my favourite moment is when the sun is high and I can be at the beach enjoying the island life.

Something about the island you can’t read in the guidebooks but need to know

Ibiza is full of magic, she is like an amplifier, where your thoughts and actions have immediate repercussions in your life, where you can use this power to grow and learn…. Or she will show you the hard way. Be good and she will receive you with all her grace, be sloppy in your living and she will put you back in your place.

I love to eat

A veggie bocadillo on a beach with my feet in the sea

I love to drink

Super detox juice at Passion in Santa Eulalia

I love to swim

Right after sunset in the summer, especially with Es Vedra at Cala d’hort

I love to dance/play

I love to dance in Cocoon at Amnesia by night and in Woomoon at Cova Santa by day

My favourite island hang out is

Benirras

My Island playlist sounds like

A bit of techno for some energy, some mystical and magical sounds, a bit of classical in the mornings and some of my all-time favourites to never forget the good times.

My favourite Island memories are
In 10 years you can imagine I have so many island memories! But always the best days are the ones that are simple, by the sea or around good music, with my loved ones that come from all over the world.

Don’t leave the island without

The best memories of your life and an Island Witch Crafts smudge bundle, of course!

I’m whispering this island secret to you…

Get lost, surrender to the island flow… and you’ll find more than you were looking for.

ISLAND LIFE: Learning to Smoke – Island Witch Crafts https://www.theislandvillas.com/island-life-learning-to-smoke-island-witch-crafts/ https://www.theislandvillas.com/island-life-learning-to-smoke-island-witch-crafts/#respond Mon, 19 Apr 2021 06:43:01 +0000 https://www.theislandvillas.com/?p=8175 [vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523462437157{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” simple_background_color=”#ffffff”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

You can see it but you can’t touch it. In a trance you watch and then peek-a-boo it’s gone. In its place another swirl teases you with promises of a portal leading to mystical adventures. The aroma kisses the air and then your skin.

This is smoke cleansing and I’m watching a series of hypnotic videos with a seductive soundtrack that Sofia of Island Witch Crafts has created especially for The Island Villas. I start to listen to the accompanying voice notes on the meaning behind smoke cleansing and the process; Sofia mentions a tiny sentence about the cultural history of smudging. I miss the depths of this tiny sentence the first time; returning to it only after travelling down a research rabbit hole. Thankfully I emerge more joyful about my own smoke cleansing heritage then ever before. I thank Sofia with all my heart for honouring the ancestory and practices of peoples that have come before us. As her velvety voice guides me,

I sense a wisdom that is at once kind yet clear. I think maybe she has powdery soft powers, the type that don’t judge but compassionately whisper things you’ve hidden from yourself.

This is not just another trendy fad for Sofia. This is a way of being and ultimately of connection to ourselves that often times can be lost but by returning to love can be found again.

Sofia explained that many cultures have their own version of smoke cleansing for various purposes from medicinal to spiritual as well as keeping bugs at bay. In Asia incense is burnt, in Arabic cultures resin whilst Sofias’ own South American background uses various sacred herbs, plants and tree bark.

I’m very familiar with incense -known as Agarbathi in Hindi- and holy fires. Each morning my mother would journey through the house chanting the Gayatri or Shiva mantra with a blazing incense stick in hand.

I had no idea back then just how profound my mothers’ morning ritual was.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1511185738030{padding-top: 52px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8178″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”8180″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

So exactly what is the difference between smudging and smoke cleansing?
Deep dive into Cultural Appropriation

Smudging is specific term that describes a centuries old ceremonial act originating from the Indigenous Peoples of North America. It is a cyclical process from sowing the seeds to harvesting to the ceremony itself. Making sure what you take from the Earth, you give back. It isn’t just about cleansing negative energy but also an invocation or summoning of types and very specific to prayer. It was often performed by a particular member of the tribe, similar to a Priest performing a Catholic Baptism.

Smoke cleansing is the term we give to other forms of burning incense/resin/herbs etc and almost anyone can practise this with the right guidance and intuition.

According to the Indigenous Corporate Training Inc.

“Smudging is traditionally a ceremony for purifying or cleansing the soul of negative thoughts of a person or place.”

There are four elements involved, Water (represented by the Abalone shell container the smudge stick sits in), Earth (the sacred herbs that make the smudge stick), Fire (fire) and Air ( when the smoke is blown out or fanned into the ether/atmosphere).

While this sounds similar to other practices there is a certain protocol to smudging in the way that the smudge stick moves around the body as well as the prayers, these are all things that have been passed down from generation to generation despite the oppressive and cruel laws that banned Indigenous Peoples from practicing their own culture.

Smudging and the ban on Indigenous Peoples

Tragically the act of smudging put Indigenous Peoples lives at risk as it was banned in 1876 alongside all religious and cultural activities including wearing their own clothes and speaking their own languages in an effort to “enfranchise” them. This was a dark time in the history of North America. It was only as recently as 1978 with the passing of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act that this changed.

A whole nation stripped of its right to be themselves and live as they had for time immemorial is unthinkable and to this day, Indigenous People are engaged in a quest to reimagine an America, where their basic human rights are respected.

I come across a bewitching fable that tells of how a young boy once arrived late at night to a warring village loaded with bundles of locally grown white sage. He asked to see the elders and as they sat in a sacred circle, he told them he had been sent to dispel their hatred for each other and to restore harmony. He asked them first to smell the sage then to pass it on. The aroma at once pleased each villager. Then he showed them how to light the sage with the coal embers from the fire before teaching them how to smudge each other whilst acknowledging one another. The smudging ignited love once again in the villager’s hearts and as they looked around to thank the young boy, they saw he had disappeared.

The fable highlights how richly intertwined within a culture smudging is and the magnitude within its meaning.

Does that mean non-Indigenous People can’t smudge?
Smoke Cleansing and The Island Witch Crafts

Sofia gently shared with me that her own understanding of this history is why she refuses to appropriate the culture of Indigenous Peoples. Island Witch Crafts is her resolve to introduce the myriad of magical ways to smoke cleanse respectfully whilst still connecting to ourselves and a divine source.

Ways that many cultures around the world have practiced for centuries that are appropriate for all. Leaning in to the knowledge from the smoke cleansing practices of her native Chile whilst also taking inspiration from the Mediterranean Witches of Ibiza, Sofia consciously forages for the all the herbs, plants and flowers that go into her bundles, praying over them. Each of her seasonally and locally produced bundles of beauty are infused with her heart centered wishes, energy and spells.

“I decided I wanted to learn more about the plants in Ibiza that have the same properties as the white sage (Salvia apiana) native to North America.

The indigenous Peoples of Chile use cinnamon bark whilst rosemary is not only a part of my own heritage but a plant well used in Ibiza.”

“Why and what do we cleanse?

According to Sofia, “We can cleanse ourselves and our space as well as set an intention for something we either wish to release or desire. Thus becoming more of a ritual.

“Smoke cleansing is a very quiet reflective time as you are connecting to the elements.  I love to use the smoke for auric cleansing as well as in my house. Its important to cleanse our homes and dispel any negative energy we no longer want or need”

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner css=”.vc_custom_1618818471803{background-color: rgba(165,149,143,0.43) !important;*background-color: rgb(165,149,143) !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”2/3″][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”ALCHEMY AND THE STEPS OF SMOKE CLEANSING” font_container=”tag:h2|text_align:center|color:%23ffffff” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

As with a lot of smoke cleaning from around the world many share the same four basic elements. Here the candle holds Fire, the bundle holds the Earth and Water and your breath represents the Air.

There are a number of ways to smoke cleanse but here is a basic guide from Sofia.

When I started off writing this piece, it was supposed to be a fun exploration into “smudging”. Thanks to Sofia and her dream to harness the nature of Ibiza with the ancient ancestral insights, we can all treasure smoke cleansing in a joyful way.

Now each morning and evening my own sacred ceremony is enlivened and more joyful. My mother will be so proud that I now know how to smoke properly.

We have tried as much as possible to offer an honest perspective that honours the Indigenous People of North America but are always open to learning and educating ourselves more so please feel free to share your understanding with us too.

ISLAND TRAVEL: Horizons of the human kind https://www.theislandvillas.com/horizons-human-kind/ https://www.theislandvillas.com/horizons-human-kind/#respond Tue, 06 Apr 2021 10:33:09 +0000 https://www.theislandvillas.com/?p=8162 [vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523462437157{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” simple_background_color=”#ffffff”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Keeping the travel spirt within us.

This morning I opened up piles of ignored, unopened bills that had been tossed to the side with Urgent written on them. In celebration of finally having the courage to open them I sang/ decimated Bill Withers uplifting anthem, Lovely Day. Then at approx. 3.30pm I started crying. I knew those tears were somewhere in me and all it took was sitting down to write this piece on our future and hope. Travel has been restricted for so long and we are already entering Spring, which traditionally is full of new beginnings and hope. Yet I don’t always feel the Spring. There are up days and there are down days. Since moving to her new home literally on the beach, I beg Alicia (Aka The Lady That Lives By The Sea) for daily photos and today magically tuning into what I needed she sent me in that exact moment without any prompt, an image of her on the windy, toffee wet sand and it instantly made me feel less alone. That’s the thing with pandemics, the isolation threatens to swallow you up and so human contact albeit it via a screen is an instant elixir, an escape a dream that we can step into. If we can feel it then surely we can create it. There is a delicious connection between us all in The Island Villas tribe, we lift each other up, send silly sometimes rude photos and excuse each other when we don’t always meet deadlines or meetings.

This kindness is not new but I feel it more, like I feel everything more now.

So deep breath and let’s keep moving even if in circles because even circles can complete us. We will keep bringing you more inside photos from our beloved Island, keeping you close to our hearts. We will travel again and soon, so reach out today to our team and let us help you and your family visualize and step into your dream Ibiza holiday.

We also have some dreamy villas for sale, so the Island can become your permanent home and you get to live your life truly and in every single moment. Suddenly the mundane becomes magical.

How a 19th Century Socialist artist became our new home ware hero

Elevating meal times from the mundane to the mesmerising with stunning table scapes has given us all a taste for quirky vintage pieces that not only look beautiful but that we develop an emotional connection too.

I love the idea that the lovingly sourced crystal candlestick or porcelain bowl on my table has a story that may span continents and time. Whilst we might not be travelling anywhere for a while, the fact that a vintage piece may have is truly magical.

What to do when life gives you cabbages.

Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro was born in 1846 into a family of artists. The Portuguese caricaturist, illustrator and sculptor, became renowned for his socialist satire and commentary on society via his art forms. He created a cartoon called Ze Povinho, which literally translates as Little People and the main protagonist was a working class albeit slightly work shy peasant who ridiculed those in power whilst still retaining his sense of being humble and honest. The more I read about his exploits the more I’m pleasantly surprised that those in authority (the government) failed in trying to muffle Pinheiros prolific voice. In 1885, Pinheiro set up his ceramic production at the Fábrica de Faianças in Caldas, revealing a technical wizardry in shape form and ideas. Amongst them was the humble cabbage.

The cabbage was thought of as peasant food and not worthy of having a presence on the tables of the upper classes. By creating such incredible pieces, Pinheiro bought a sense of The Emperors clothes to so called high society who would have bought the pieces. His fascination with nature, the environment and science served as inspiration and today these pieces are not only highly desired but also still respected for their satirical quality as well as beauty.

I feel there is no better resurrection than one that so poetically and literally serves up such an incredible message for our time. The beauty is that the production is still active and their ethos has not changed much. Now they promote new and innovative artists and a majority of their pieces benefit from being hand filled into moulds and then hand painted.

If you are as obsessed with the production, as I am then click here to see a short video.

Consuming consciously

Whilst consuming consciously as opposed to impulsive or addictive shopping is a feeling that last longer, let’s all be compassionate towards ourselves during this time and dissolve the guilt. Instead look round and online for pre-loved items or if the local markets are still open, take time out to rummage around for some gems.

We adore the markets here in Ibiza where I have personally uncovered gems that spark more than joy. San Jordi on a Saturday morning as well as Troc are amongst some of our favourites.

You can also head over to Etsy and Ebay for original pieces.

We found these inspired pieces in Oliver in Ibiza town:

ISLAND INTERIORS: 2021 colour trends https://www.theislandvillas.com/island-interiors-2021-colour-trends/ https://www.theislandvillas.com/island-interiors-2021-colour-trends/#respond Thu, 11 Feb 2021 14:35:00 +0000 https://www.theislandvillas.com/?p=7925 [vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523462437157{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” simple_background_color=”#ffffff”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Sunshine state of mind

Here at Island Villas we are all feeling deeply into our affirmations.

2021 you are going to be kind and hopeful.

Keeping our pace slow and intentional with smiles, laughter and those oh so brave tears that sometimes fall just because. We wholeheartedly embrace you 2021.

Homebound and happy

Many of us we are still finding ourselves home bound and with nowhere to run to, why not change it up a little with colour. Different colours are known to affect our mood and we all know that January and February can feel a little heavy. Playing with colour, be it a lick of paint or a piece of home ware in alternative hues is sometimes all it takes to change perspective. Whilst we don’t believe in trends for the sake of trends, here is our rundown of the colours we think are going to be everywhere. Look online to Etsy and Ebay as well as rummaging (rules allowing) in your local vintage or charity shops for vases, fabrics and fun pieces. Maybe even organise an online zoom swap party with friends for more conscious consumption.

Refresh and Renew: 2021 colour trends
Illuminating Yellow

This year Pantone have chosen two colours that sit at the opposite end of the spectrum as their colours of  2021 but work in perfect harmony, with balance being an optimum factor for a more at ease life.  Pantone 17-5105 Ultimate Grey and Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating, not only work with each other but a whole kaleidoscope of other colours. Yellow represents warmth and a sunny optimism after the bleakness of last year whilst grey is reassuring and solid, it is reminiscent of unshakable foundations. Like pebbles on a beach weathered by the elements but still standing, the colour symbolises resilience in the face of unknown adversities.

Ultimate Grey

Whilst many of us are familiar with shades of grey, adding a pop of unexpected yellow is a fun way of incorporating a piece of sunshine in our homes.

Other colours we adore and will make a welcome dance into our lives according to The Trend Bible (there is a science as well as a heavy dose of instinct from these forecastors) are shades of green, blue, terracotta and lilac.

The exact Pantone colours for anyone lusting after this info are below:

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”7823″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”7949″ img_size=”full” alignment=”right”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”7950″ img_size=”450×675″][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”7424″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”7965″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”7966″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523462437157{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” simple_background_color=”#ffffff”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Dusky Orchid

Pantone 17-1610 TCX

This shade promotes solace and calm. In nature this shade can be seen in the lavender that are everywhere on the island!

Frosty Green

Pantone 15-5706 TCX

With our raised consciousness of living a more plant friendly and sustainable life, shades of green are synonymous with nature.

Palace Blue

18-4043 TCX

Our kind of blue. With many of us working from home, the technological challenges of setting up an office with you in a new role as IT manager has bought a blending of digital realms into our lives.  Look out for hyper futuristic blue in metallic finishes.

Langoustino

Pantone 16-1440 TCX

A favourite of the Island Villas team. We love this rich earthy shade as its reminds us of the sun baked earth of the Island. A view we get to see every day out of our offices. At night we want to wrap up in its seductive embrace with these lush linens from Los Enamorados.

Shale Green

Pantone 16-6116 TCX

Contemplating what kind of future our children will have, this soft misty green reflects a modest, conscious and environmentally friendly reflection.

Easter Egg

Pantone 16-3925 TCX

So many of our kids have bravely missed out on outside play with their pals due to restrictions. Hop, skip and jump into the future with endless play!

Fantasy and escapist themes in ice cream palettes of chalky purple and blue are what this tone thankfully is all about.

Sea themed Christmas decorations that pay homage to our vibrant Island

Do you ever forget as a child, your first ever sublime submission into the sea? While those memories may play out like an old film reel, dreamy and hazy with a belly full of giggles, the lip smacking sweet and salty taste of sea water tickling your skin never does.

These are the moments you want your children and loved ones to experience for themselves. The innocence of exploration and discovery stays deep in our souls. And as Islanders we know the urgent desire to protect Ibiza so we can all give the gift of a cleaner, safer Planet for all, one that sings with a pulsating eco system for our children, loved ones and future generations.

Island SOS

With an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic finding its murky way into our oceans, its essential we all take steps to prevent this such as recycling single use plastic, getting wiser with our consumer choices and here in Ibiza we can all partake in beach clean up days. We would also like to put a spotlight on the incredible work that ibi Foundation is doing with their intense solar powered ocean clean up boat.

Our hero David Attenborough and the collective power of us all.

This Christmas we will be snuggling up and learning more about our planet.

No one can document the natural world quite like our beloved hero David Attenborough. In his documentary for Netflix, A Life On Our Planet, Attenborough reflects on the “devastating changes he has witnessed during his career, “The living world is a unique and spectacular marvel yet the way we humans live on Earth is sending it into a decline. “ However, there is hope, “We need to learn how to work with nature rather than against it – and I’m going to tell you how.” And hope and inspiration from Mr. Attenborough is just the miracle we all dream of this Christmas.

Bringing the ocean into our homes – the cool and the kitsch

Taking inspiration and paying homage to all things sea life themed, we have found some gorgeous hanging Christmas tree decorations for you as well as home ware, jewelry and a very cool Shell shaped vintage handbag.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”7713″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”7720″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”7715″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”7711″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_single_image image=”7717″ img_size=”full”][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523462437157{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” simple_background_color=”#ffffff”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Foraging on the beach

Whilst these shop bought Christmas decorations are a delight, why not take your little ones foraging for seashells on the beach? If you don’t live close to a beach most garden centers sell bags of shells. Decorate wreaths, pile on the eco glitter for hanging decorations, use to embellish gifts or simply pile high for beachy table vibes. Easy and fun to do, it’s a wonderful way of bringing nature.

Learning from an Octopus

This Christmas tune into the captivating Netflix, documentary, My Octopus Teacher. Hard to put into words, this is essentially the real life story a man that creates an emotional bond with an octopus who teaches him just how to live again.

After the year we have all had disconnected from our loved ones, learning to live again is just the lesson we might all need a little of.

May there be peace, joy and love for us all.

Love from The Island Villas team xxx

ISLAND INTERIORS: Inside the Island – Candles https://www.theislandvillas.com/candles/ https://www.theislandvillas.com/candles/#respond Sun, 13 Dec 2020 10:16:26 +0000 https://www.theislandvillas.com/?p=7697 [vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1523462437157{background-color: #ffffff !important;}” simple_background_color=”#ffffff”][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

This year saw the rise of the candle as this years’ interiors instagram star eclipsing expensive colour coordinated beauty products in open cabinets and travel photos.

More than just a selfie-starved influencer, the candle offered us much needed solace and calm.  WFH during during the pandemic meant navigating new challenges of chaos and uncertainty.  The flicker of light and the smell of sea salt in the summer became my new office colleague and allowed me to be transported to destinations that my nomadic soul gasped for like essential Prana.

Whilst recycling burnt out candle holders became an obsession for many with plants and make up brushes all finding new homes in decadently glorious Diptyque jars.

Now the seasons are transitioning to chillier climes, the snap, crackle and pop of a wooden three-wick candle is pure hygge.

And when laughter is the required medicine to elevate our mood then we love a candle with a message, like these devilishly humorous ones from the 1love2hugs3kisses store in Ibiza. Who says you cant be spiritual and not give a f*ck.

We also love these candles from Boy Smells.

If you are going to light up then consider soy candles like these, Soy Ibiza ones. They are so much kinder to your lungs and the environment and now is the time to celebrate the small and beautiful businesses that make our island the individual paradise that it is.

And sometimes a thick white Church candle sitting on top of an emerald green tall candlestick is pure simplicity. We love all the pops of refreshing citrus featured throughout Can Fara, a vast six bedroom villas developed to meticulous standards, cocooned in the countryside. Positioned between the go-slow village of Saint Miguel and the calm cerulean waters of Puerto de San Miguel, with under floor heating and big cosy fires what better winter retreat to slip into Island life than here.
